This study is the first scientometric analysis of RTIs research from Africa. It analysed 1,697 English, French and Portuguese papers on RTIs from Africa published between 1974 and 2021 and indexed in the Web of Science. It also compared the rankings of RTI mortality rate and the proportion of research contributions among African countries. Further, the percentage of research contributions by African sub-regions was analysed. This study puts forward a call for urgent action to reduce RTIs in Africa by discussing a general overview of past studies and road traffic fatalities in Africa.
